WELCOME TO PRINCESS PRIDE ENGLISH SETTERS' WEBSITE!

OUR BREEDING OBJECTIVE

We're strongly dedicated to this wonderful breed and our long-term objective is to breed healthy English Setters descending from healthy English & American bloodlines, with good character, the right instincts and a nice appearance. It would be great if more and more people would discover the English Setter as a great partner in both family and hunting life. We breed under FCI, our studdogs are available at stud only for approved bitches with FCI pedigree or pedigree recognized by FCI. All breeding stock is BVA hip scored
, PRArcd4 and BAER tested, all puppies are PRArcd4 and BAER tested.

It is obvious that everybody wants a healthy dog. Before buying an English setter puppy we can just advise to check parents’ and ancestors’ health profile (BAER,
PRArcd4, HD certificate, X-ray picture etc.) and always ask for the puppy's hearing test, PRArcd4 test. These are more important than any kind of fancy titles in the pedigree. Please do not buy puppies from untrusted sources without proper health tests and without pedigree or with pedigree unrecognized by FCI.

BREED HISTORY : The English Setter is an old gundog breed, their history can be traced back to the 14th century. "One of the early names for the Setter was Setting Spaniel, but remember, in those days, the term spaniel often meant simply “dog from Spain,” so the relationship to dogs we know as flushing spaniels today may not be as strong as this name suggests." [ESAA] "There is some evidence in the earliest writings of sportsmen that the English Setter was originally produced from crosses of the Spanish pointer (for nose or scenting ability), the large water spaniel, and the springer spaniel. The Setter gets its name from an early style of hunting before the use of firearms was widespread." [ESAA] "During the 18th century, the use of firearms became more prevalent, replacing nets for harvesting game birds." "In the classic upright point, dogs plant themselves and lean their weight forward intently with their noses pointing toward the scent of the game." [ESAA]
"The modern English Setter owes its appearance to Mr. Edward Laverack (1800–1877), who developed his own strain of the breed by careful breeding during the 19th century in England and to another Englishman, Mr. R. Purcell Llewellin (1840–1925), who founded his strain using Laverack's best dogs and outcrossed them with the Duke, Rhoebe and later Duke's littermate Kate bloodlines with the best results. With time, Laverack bred successfully to produce beautiful representatives of the breed. The first show for English Setters was held in 1859 at Newcastle upon Tyne. The breed's popularity soared across England as shows became more and more widespread. Not long after, the first English Setters were brought to North America, including those that began the now-famous Llewellin strain recorded in the writing of Dr. William A Burette. From this group of dogs came the foundation of the field-trial setter in America, "Count Noble", who is currently mounted in the Carnegie Museum at Pittsburgh." [Wikipedia]
